  • Strike action 1st February 2023 - School is expected to be open fully as usual

    Tue 31 Jan 2023

    Dear Parents and Carers

    Strike action tomorrow

    I would like to let you know that I am expecting school to be fully open to all children tomorrow. NEU teachers do have the right to inform me on the morning of the strike whether they are striking – if this happens I will email families affected as soon as I know. Please presume school will be open unless you hear from myself.

    Best wishes

    Dr James

  • Possible Strike - Wednesday 1st February 2023

    Tue 24 Jan 2023

    Possible strike action on Wednesday 1st February 2023

    You will have heard that the National Education Union teachers have voted to start strike action. The first planned strike is on the 1st February.

    I will not know until the actual day whether I will have to close any classes. At present I do not expect to close the school on that day and it looks unlikely that I will need to close any classes. I will try to keep the maximum number of classes open if NEU members do strike here at Langley.

    I will try to give you as much warning as I can of any disruption as I am aware of the need yourselves to arrange child care on those days. If your child is entitled to free school meals and their class is closed I will make arrangements to provide a lunch for the children on that day.

    If you do not hear that your child’s class is closed from me, please come to school as normal. I will do this both by sending out a message and putting any details on the school website.

    Yours sincerely,

    A James

  • Parent Governor Vacancy

    Fri 23 Sep 2022

    23rd September 2022

    Dear Parents and Carers

    New Parent Governor Required

    Would you consider  volunteering your time to become a Parent Governor at Langley. We have one space on the Governing Body that needs to be filled.

    What is a Parent Governor?

    The Governing Body is made up of a mixture of parents and carers, local authority representatives, local business people, staff and the Head Teacher. Their role is to support the Head Teacher in working out what the school stands for and what we want to achieve. They then monitor the work of the Head Teacher in making sure that this is done. This is done by looking at the progress the children make, what they do in school and how the money the school gets is spent.

    What is the commitment?

    There are at least two meetings each term you will need to come to. They are usually on a Wednesday at 6pm and last for about an hour each. You would also be expected to come into school at least once a term to find out more about an area of school life that interests you and report back to the other Governors in a short written report. This is the minimum amount of time but you are very welcome to get more involved and come in more.

    Why become a Langley Governor?

    I think there are really two reasons for becoming a Governor;

    1. You will have a chance to make a real difference to the education that children at Langley get. Your decisions with the other Governors help to set the approach to education the school takes and the sort of opportunities the children here get. As a Governing Body we talk regularly about how the children are taught, how they are looked after and the opportunities they get for things such as visits, musical lessons, sports events etc.
    2. You will get to understand how a school really runs and have the opportunity, if you wish, to learn how to run a large organisation. These skills can make a real difference to your CV and the skills you can offer in your career.

    Do I need a DBS?

    You will need to be able to get a DBS as you will be a trusted member of the school staff. We take you through this process and it is free. You would also need to realise that what is discussed in meetings is for the benefit of all the children of the school and is kept private. Records are kept of meetings and these are available for other people to read to see what was discussed and decided. You would not be personally named in these notes when decisions are made.

    Do I need any qualifications?

    Training is provided for the role and you do not need to have any qualifications. Your wish to work to improve the lives of the pupils and their families is more important. The rest we can help you with and take you through it step by step.

    So are you interested?

    If you would like to be part of helping Langley Primary keep improving and giving the children and their families, the chance to learn and grow safely then this is a role you will enjoy. If you are interested and would like to find out more please feel free to give me a ring on the school number, email me or make a time to come in and talk to me about the role.

    If you feel ready to put yourself forward to be a Governor, please contact the school office who can provide you with further information and a nomination form. If you don’t feel ready but know someone who might be please have a word with them and see if they will apply.

    The final date for you to put yourself forward is Wednesday 5th October 10am. If more than one parent or carer does this, then there will need to be an election by the parents and carers of the school.

    I look forward to hearing from you and working with you to make Langley Primary an even better school.

    Yours sincerely,

    A James

  • COVID Guidelines and getting support in difficult times

    Fri 01 Apr 2022

    1st, April, 2022

    Dear Parents and Carers,

    COVID Guidelines and getting support in difficult times

    COVID Guidelines

    As you will know all restrictions about COVID were lifted today. From this point on COVID will be treated as another illness.

    The following are the guidelines from the Government;

    • adults with the symptoms of a respiratory infection, and who have a high temperature or feel unwell, should try to stay at home and avoid contact with other people until they feel well enough to resume normal activities and they no longer have a high temperature;

    • children and young people who are unwell and have a high temperature should stay at home and avoid contact with other people. They can go back to school, college or childcare when they no longer have a high temperature, and they are well enough to attend;

    • adults with a positive COVID-19 test result should try to stay at home and avoid contact with other people for 5 days, which is when they are most infectious. For children and young people aged 18 and under, the advice will be 3 days

    The population now has much stronger protection against COVID-19 than at any other point in the pandemic. This means we can begin to manage the virus like other respiratory infections, thanks to the success of the vaccination programme and access to antivirals, alongside natural immunity and increased scientific and public understanding about how to manage risk.

    There is no need to test your child anymore. Should you wish to, and the lateral flow test is positive, please let us know. However, Attendance will not be asking for such evidence and absence will be counted just as a normal absence from now.

    Support in difficult times

    I know, like staff here, many of you will be concerned about the increase in prices and especially the big increase in energy and food bills. Please remember that you do not need to struggle alone. There is a lot of support out there. If you need some help please feel free to come and see Miss Savage or myself. If you would prefer, you can ring SinglePoint directly on 0121 544 1393. They are great at knowing what is out there and will help you every step of the way.

    Yours sincerely,

    A James

  • Visitor Face Coverings in school from Tuesday 30th November

    Mon 29 Nov 2021 Dr James

    Dear Parents and Carers,

    With the finding of the new variant of Corona Virus and the measures being brought in on Tuesday, I am writing to you to let you know that from tomorrow morning and visitors will be required to wear a face covering. This includes coming into the School Office.

    My hope is that the planned events and the way we are working in school will continue to be possible if we take sensible measures now. However, I cannot guarantee this and will keep you updated if I need to make any further changes.

    Best wishes

    Dr James
